Star Media's multichannel network (MCN) on YouTube is actively expanding on the platform. This year’s October, another company’s MCN channel became the owner of the YouTube Gold Play Button. It became the fifth in the collection of Gold Play Buttons of the Star Media aggregator. This award is given to channels that have reached 1,000,000 subscribers. The company also holds 24 silver awards. We should note that Star Media has received four out of five Gold Play Buttons it owns in 2020. It is worth highlighting that only in the first half of 2020, the number of views on the company's YouTube channels exceeded the number of views for the entire 2019. Thus, Star Media has once again confirmed its status as one of the largest aggregators of broadcast content!
Star Media set up its first YouTube channel, which at that time served exclusively as a repository of the company's content library, in 2011. In the early 2010s, online cinemas/streaming services began to appear in Russia and they instantly attracted the attention of millions of Internet users, and the Star Media management decided to create its own analogue of such service on the YouTube platform. A key role in its development played the fact that Star Media was one of the first companies to upload its productions to YouTube in parallel with broadcasting them on the TV.
As of today, Star Media is one of the major YouTube aggregators in the CIS. The company's MCN includes over 40 channels with a total of over 15 million subscribers. Among them are separate channels of large content copyright holders, English, Spanish, and Vietnamese language channels. In general, Star Media network’s library on YouTubeincludes more than 11,000 pieces of content of various genres, being melodramas, detective stories, comedies, docudramas, dramas, etc. Monthly, the company's products on the YouTube reach 270 million views, while the total number of views of all productions on the platform exceeds 7.7 billion.
